QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM
QAP HISTORY
Specific rationale for each of these four items, a definition of "TIM" and additional program information can be found by clicking here, or on the QAP brochure pictured above.
CURRENT QAP PROGRAM
More then a few years after implementation, the QAP program is thriving with over 16,000 fire protection systems in its database. Items 1, 2 and 3 above are being fully met and completion of a QAP quality assurance program is anticipated by the end of summer. Systems identified with deficiencies causing a system to be "Out of Service" are required to be submitted to the SFMO within one working day, normally triggering an on-site inspection within 48 hours of receipt. When verified, a violation is issued requiring immediate correction. Temporary actions such as fire watch, increased staffing, reduced occupant load, etc. may be required as appropriate based on the life safety exposure presented by the occupancy.
QAP IMPROVEMENT & CHANGES
Clearly, the QAP program has significantly improved the quality of fire protection systems throughout the state since its inception. That doesn't mean we can't improve upon the program or its administration. July 1, 2000, in an attempt to reduce time and paperwork while improving overall program efficiency and effectiveness, the following changes were implemented:
- New one page Certificates of Inspection (for submission to SFMO, only)
Note: Detailed report is required to be left on site. - New one page Deficiency Repair Report
- New system complaint form available for both internal and external
documentation of a system deficiency - "Fire Protection System Inspection Reporting Procedures" which, for the first
time, specifically documents the contractors role and obligations.
