Requires application, scale plan/drawing, and fee.


The shelter would be labeled as Rooming and Lodging Occupancy per NFPA and shall not have more than 16 patrons not to include the required staff member(s).


If there is no fire sprinkler system, areas designated for sleeping require an exit door directly to the outside. A fire watch must be in place at all times when occupied.


If there is a fire sprinkler system, they can choose to meet the current NFPA Life Safety Code. Which means patrons can sleep just about anywhere.


Temporary/battery operated smoke detectors shall be located in the sleeping area as well as immediately outside the sleeping area. If there is a fire alarm system, smoke detection can be added but is not required.


The building shall be occupied by another occupancy before a temporary use will be allowed. Vacant buildings wishing to be used shall meet the requirements of the current DSFPRs and NFPA Codes and Standards.
